Out of all the Maui wedding venues I’ve photographed, Olowalu Plantation House is easily my favorite, and I’m so thrilled to be sharing all about it with you today! Set on the breathtaking shores of West Maui, this venue is the embodiment of Hawaii’s tropical beauty, and is sure to impress every single guest at your celebration—whether you have 10, 50, or 200. Shall we dive a little deeper into what makes this a dream-come-true venue for your special day?

About Olowalu Plantation House

When I tell you that this venue has the most perfect location you could imagine, I truly mean it. The historic Olowalu Plantation House is nestled on 2.5 acres of oceanside estate right along Honoapiilani Highway, about seven miles south of Lahaina and nine miles west of Maalaea.

This location in the dreamy West Maui region is phenomenal for weddings, thanks to its stunning views of the mountains, Pacific Ocean, and the nearby islands of Molokai and Lanai as well as its gorgeous beaches, charming seaside towns, and some of the best sunsets in the WORLD. Who wouldn’t want to get married here?

Named one of the best wedding venues in Hawaii by Wedding Spot, Olowalu has without a doubt become one of the more popular Maui wedding venues not just for its unbeatable scenery, but for its rich history on the island. The home was designed in 1922 with traditional Hawaiian plantation-style architecture featuring an expansive lanai, high ceilings, and plenty of natural light—so you can see why it’s been turned into such a fabulous wedding venue!

Olowalu has been known as a place of refuge, or pi’u honua, by Hawaiians since ancient times, often referred to as a really magical place for everyone who visits. The original home was actually restored in 2000, intentionally keeping its historic charm while adding in a few modern amenities to make it the perfect place to host unforgettable events.

Why Get Married at Olowalu Plantation House?

I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re already convinced that this is the venue for you, after seeing just a few photos!

Just in case you’re not, let’s go through a few of the many reasons why you should choose the Olowalu Plantation House for your Maui wedding.

Dreamy oceanside ceremony location

While Olowalu has a few different ceremony sites you can choose from, the main spot on the lawn is pretty dang hard to beat. You’ll say your “I do’s” just steps from the water, framed by towering palm trees and blue skies shining in the background. Whether you’re joined by 10 guests or 100, everybody will get to enjoy phenomenal views as you tie the knot to the sounds of the breeze and the waves hitting the shore—the dream backtrack to your vows, don’t you think? I could go on and on about how beautiful this spot is, but you’ll just have to see it for yourself below!

Charming house to get ready in

No need to book a separate hotel to get ready in—the Olowalu Plantation House has been perfectly designed for the morning of your wedding. You and your wedding party will have plenty of room to get all dolled up for the big day inside of the charming, historic main house.

With space to accommodate up to 20 people, a spacious lanai overlooking the lawn, and beautiful views of the water, you couldn’t ask for a more perfect place to sip mimosas, hug your best friends, and create lifelong memories alongside the people you love most.

Additionally, you’ll get access to the commercial-grade kitchen inside of the house, where your licensed caterer can prep throughout the day.

While you can’t stay overnight in the main house, there are plenty of large vacation homes in the area that would be the perfect places for you and your wedding party to stay for the weekend.

Breathtaking west-facing sunsets

I’ve already mentioned this, but it’s worth mentioning again: the west side of Maui has some of the most incredible sunsets in the world, and lucky for you, Olowalu just so happens to be set on a prime location in West Maui! Dreamy oranges, pinks, and purples often paint the skies as the sun sets beyond the horizon, the west-facing views offering a perfect view of the magical evening colors—which we’ll definitely take advantage of by heading down to the beach for some sunset portraits.

Quiet, secluded location

You won’t find hordes of Maui tourists here; no, Olowalu offers a super quiet, private location to escape the noise and reconnect with the natural beauty of Maui. I adore this venue for its scenic views, of course, but the secluded, intimate atmosphere adds even more of a draw. It’s always a good sign that you’re far away from touristy locations when cell service gets a little spotty, right? Be sure to let your guests know beforehand, and make sure everyone has clear directions to get to the venue!

Spacious reception lanai & lawn

The expansive grassy lawn at Olowalu is to die for. . . the absolute dream for both couples and their wedding guests. With amazing views of the West Maui Mountains, open air dance floor, and collection of magical tiki torches & bistro lights that glisten under the starry island skies, you’ll no doubt have one of the best nights of your lives celebrating here. There’s plenty of space for your guests to mingle as they watch the sunset, enjoy cocktails, dine on delicious bites, and toast to your love—and if you’re lucky, you might even get to see humpback whales breaching in the distance between December and April. Or even dolphins in the morning while you get ready!

Chic beachfront bar

What more could you want for a delightful, seaside cocktail hour than a beachfront bar? Guests can grab drinks from your open bar while they wander around the lawn before dinner, or later in the night during your reception. Such a great touch to have this beautiful bar area already set up for you once you’re ready to party the night away.

Easy beach & pier access

Just steps away from the grassy lawn is a small beach area at the Olowalu Pier, where I’ll take you for the most enchanting portraits you could dream of. The beach isn’t big by any means, and it’s more rocky than soft and sandy, but it makes for an incredibly gorgeous place for sunset portraits of the two of you once you’ve made things official. And the best part? It’ll just be you—no other beachgoers or tourists with endless cameras in sight.

Prime location on West Maui

West Maui is such a phenomenal place to spend time exploring, and I highly recommend you & your guests stay in the area for as long as you can—whether that means arriving a few days early, or extending your trip a couple of days after the wedding itself. This region of the island offers so many amazing activities and excursions that’ll give you unforgettable experiences, including:

  • Whale watching
  • Scenic hiking
  • Incredible snorkeling
  • Quaint beach towns
  • Picturesque state parks
  • World-renowned beaches

Trust me, you will NOT regret spending a little extra time exploring West Maui and everything it has to offer.

Customizable for any size wedding

Olowalu Plantation House can accommodate up to 200 guests, but it’s really a great venue for any size wedding, whether you’re hosting an intimate gathering with just 25 close friends & family members, or a large celebration with everyone you love. Pricing and availability varies by group size, and they’ve even got a special half-day package you can choose if you have less than 50 people. The venue can technically fit more than 200 guests, but it’ll have to be approved by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Ample on-site parking

Olowalu has a grassy area that can fit about 30-50 cars if you and your guests are self-parking, or about 60 cars if you’re using parking attendants. Weddings with over 100 guests require a parking attendant, and if you have more than 150, you’ll need to hire a shuttle service to transport folks to the venue.
